Week 4 Update

posted Apr 8, 2013, 2:07 PM by Jack Bandy

(1) Old School: 65

(4) Salt & Pepper: 35

Improving to 4-0, Old School dominated nearly every aspect of the game against Gatobu-less Salt & Pepper. Jason Price iced a 3-point basket in the closing seconds, rubbing salt in the wound of Salt & Pepper's 2nd loss of the season. With four wins, Old School now looks to D-League, Dream Team, and the Fireflies with hopes to finish a perfect regular season.

(2) Grass Fairies: 44

(6) D-League: 42

With 11 seconds remaining, Siah Holifield enchanted the basketball to make a 2-point bucket that would hold down the lead for the remainder of the game. Robby Irgang threw in four baskets from behind the 3-point arch in his effort to bring the D-League to an even record, but his team fell to 1-3 on the season. The Grass Fairies magically improve to 3-1, with their only loss to first-ranked Old School.

(5) Hufflepuff vs. (7) Dream Team

"Lob City boi" -Carter Hahn (Hufflepuff)

(8) Fireflies vs. (3) Goon Squad

For this match-up, the league has instituted a 40-point mercy rule. The Fireflies will return with a fresh roster as several team members have incurred season-ending circumstances.

Week 2 Update

posted Mar 18, 2013, 1:08 PM by Jack Bandy   [ updated Mar 20, 2013, 7:39 PM ]

(4) Grass Fairies: 38

(3) Salt & Pepper: 30

Justin Sanders had the league's first double-double (13 points, 15 rebounds) as the Grass Fairies defeated Salt & Pepper. The Fairies appeared to cast a charm which caused Salt & Pepper's rebounding to become nearly impossible. Monell glued the team together with 6 assists, and Holifield returned for the Fairies to help put together another balanced attack, with 5 of their 6 players scoring. Salt & Pepper, or just "Salt" without Gatobu, had only 21 rebounds to the Fairies' 35, and senior guard Grant Wells (23 points, week 1) had only 4 points. Jack Bandy and Carson Daniel combined for 24 of Salt's 30 points.

(5) D-League: 46

(7) Fireflies: 23

Robby Irgang's double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) helped lead D-League to a commanding victory over the Fireflies, Irgang was aided by Ian Kossick's 18-point effort. D-League doubled their rebounding efforts (17 rebounds, week 1; 35 rebounds, week 2) and locked down Cameron Seater (21 points, week 1) from behind the arch. The Fireflies, missing guard Reese Kemp with a broken finger, were led by Wells Ducas' 12-point performance, adding to Seater's 5 points.

(1) Old School: 44

(2) Hufflepuff: 40

With a 21-point performance, coach Jason Price pushed Old School past a respectable effort from Hufflepuff. Although Hufflepuff out-rebounded by a 2:1 ratio, the team found little traction against Old School's defensive effort. Joining the Grass Fairies as the only other remaining undefeated team, Old School continues to live up to its pre-season hype. Hufflepuff put together another respectable, balanced performance led by Hahn's 14 points.

(6) Goon Squad: 48

(8) Dream Team: 32

Controversial refereeing spurred a chaotic blow-out, and the league committee voted to end this game early. With Fain (18 points, 5 rebounds), the Goon Squad was a completely different team. Tanner Richards had 20 points, all within the shortened game. Dream Team's future in the league is unclear: Crouse left the game with an injury (promising "day to day" updates), and league co-commissioner Grant Wells threatened to eject the team from the league altogether. "Fans: don't lose faith" said captain Noah Hayden, "We will rebound, it's a long season." It was mentioned the team may have to change its name to remain in the league.

Week 1 Update

posted Mar 11, 2013, 5:38 PM by Jack Bandy   [ updated Mar 13, 2013, 2:57 PM ]

All of the week 1 match-ups have taken place, below are the results by team.

Old School

(Pre-Season Ranking: 1st)

Playing up to the pre-season hype, Old School defeated a Goon Squad who was missing Chase Fain, 41-21. Coach Price led the team with 17 points, and Coach Thompson added 13 points of his own. Despite the team's convincing win, Old School demonstrated a vulnerability as almost 75% of the team's points came from just 33% of the roster.

(Pre-Season Ranking: 2nd)

Hufflepuff's balanced attack led them to a 35-28 victory over D-League. Hufflepuff was the only team with all players to score, led by Devin Taylor's 10-point performance. Cody Jasper pulled down a league-record 8 rebounds, and Carter Hahn was the first intramural player to attempt a *put-back* dunk. Hufflepuff's size advantage led to 25 rebounds, compared to the opponent's 15.

The Goon Squad

(Pre-Season Ranking: 3rd)

The Goon Squad put up only 21 points against Old School's "old school" defense, led by Tanner Richards' 9-point performance. Only three of the squad's players scored, and Chase Fain missed the season opener. Seth Bol knocked down two 3-point buckets and Cameron McNeely had a league-record five turnovers.

Salt & Pepper

(Pre-Season Ranking: 4th)

Salt & Pepper defeated the Fireflies 52-39 in their season-opener on Wednesday. Grant Wells led the team with 23 points, shattering the league record. Carson Daniel, Jack Bandy, and Grant Wells combined for 48 of the the team's 52 and Te Gatobu pulled down a new league record of 16 rebounds. Logan Dailey made the league's first official hook shot.

(Pre-Season Ranking: 5th)

D-League suffered a 35-28 loss to Hufflepuff, despite Ian Kossick's 13-point performance and Parker Lewis' 7 rebounds. Hunter Knuckles unexpectedly went scoreless in the season opener, but the D-League shows promise as Robby Irgang will return for their next match-up.

(Pre-Season Ranking: 6th)

Despite a 21-point effort from Cameron Seater, the Fireflies fell to 4th-ranked Salt & Pepper, 52-39. Wells Ducas added 9 points and 10 rebounds, and Reese Kemp had seven points of his own. The Fireflies hope to return with full power next week as Seth Hampton was missing from the lineup for their first match-up.

The Grass Fairies

(Pre-Season Ranking: 7th)

Justin Sanders (11 points, 6 rebounds) and Derrick Little (10 points) led the Grass Fairies to a 32-25 victoryover the The Dream Team. The opponent had Little answer when Derrick Little started lighting up from behind the arch, and four of the Fairies' five players made the box score.

Dream Team

(Pre-Season Ranking: 8th)

Reshawn Jackson's 21 points weren't enough for the to overcome the Grass Fairies, and the Dream Team fell 32-25. That's right, 21 of the team's 25 points came from Jackson. Noah Hayden set the league record for longest basket, with bank shot from the half-court vicinity. Josh Preston made a free throw. Isaac Horne had a rebound.
